I’m old enough to remember when super straight hair was all the rage. I asked my mom to use a flat iron on my wavy hair in the early years. (Please don’t.) Now, hair trends are much more about embracing your natural texture. For Zendaya, it’s similar to the curls you see on her Euphoria character. But lately, Zendaya has been sporting her straight hair in a bouncy blowout which has become more popular lately.

If you’re on TikTok beauty, you’ve seen the voluminous blowouts, usually done with the Dyson Airwrap. We return to the 70s with modern versions of the volume that Farrah Fawcett made so popular. Even without an Airwrap, people use round brushes and old-fashioned curlers to get that sleek, shiny hair that’s curled in all the right places. Just a few years ago, I would have recoiled from anything “rolled up”. It was all about straightening your extremities, even when doing beach waves. How quickly things have changed and how dated it seems now.

Earlier this week, Zendaya stepped out with her cute boyfriend Tom Holland in New York and her hair literally seems to be blowing in the wind. This volume! The shine! And in New York’s bad weather, it’s even more impressive.

You can see how her hair is straight and the ends are curled. That’s serious modeling status for the movie star.

Zendaya likes to experiment with her hair, and she looks great with her natural curls, in cornrows, wearing wigs — pretty much anything she tries on. These killer looks are usually done by hairstylist Ursula Stephen or Kim Kimble, who is the head of Euphoriathe hairdressing department.

So if you usually wear your hair a certain way, or have a habit of straightening your ends, give this bouncy blowout a chance and you’ll never look back.
