Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in the Peabody shooting | North of Boston

State police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect in a shooting that occurred Wednesday night in Peabody.

According to a news release, a man driving an SUV fired a gun at a woman in another car as they were both traveling northbound on Route 1 around 9:30 p.m.

State police said the 26-year-old was driving north on the freeway in a Mercedes sedan when a gray Toyota SUV began to tail her car. The driver of the Toyota began to drive even more aggressively and attempted to pass the Mercedes, police said.

When the Toyota pulled up alongside the passenger side of the Mercedes near Holiday Inn, the driver of the Toyota fired at the Mercedes with a gun, police said. The woman in the Mercedes was the sole occupant of the car and was not injured, police said. They say they documented and recovered ballistic evidence, including inside the car’s cabin.

The shooter is described as a man in his early twenties, with a short “buzz cut” haircut and wearing a black shirt. He had a passenger with him in the Toyota. She is believed to be in her mid-twenties, with blonde hair. The shooter’s vehicle is believed to be a gray Toyota SUV with Florida plates, police say.

Anyone with information about the incident or the occupants of the Toyota is asked to contact Danvers Barracks State Police Private James Maloney at 978-538-6161.
