The Dallas Police Chief announced on Friday that a recent shooting at an Asian-run hair salon that injured three women may be a hate crime and may be linked to a series of similar incidents in other local businesses run by Asian Americans.

A day after the police initially had ruled out the possibility of a hate crime, Chief Eddie Garcia said at a press conference that when investigators began to connect the dots to two other recent shootings, it emerged that Wednesday’s attack at the Hair World Salon “may be motivated by more than a random act.”

“As in any other instance where we believe a portion of our community is being attacked for hate reasons, we will exercise a great deal of caution,” Garcia said, noting that Dallas police are working with partners, including the FBI, investigate. “Hate has no place here.”

The long and ugly history of anti-Asian racism and violence in the United States

Police responded early Wednesday afternoon to the shooting at Hair World Salon, located in the city’s Koreatown district. Three women had been shot and were rushed in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement.

The shooter had previously fled in a brown van, police said. Authorities described him as a black man with shoulder-length, curly hair and a beard.

After police said there was no indication the shooting was motivated by hate, authorities concluded that two other recent shootings at Asian-run businesses may be linked, leading authorities to believe that the attacks could be hate crimes.

Police mentioned witnesses reported that on the morning of April 2, a red van drove past a mall housing Asian-run businesses, a short walk from Hair World Salon. Shots were fired but no one was injured, says the chief of police.

On Tuesday, a driver in a burgundy van or car drove past an Asian-run business across town and fired into the building, police said. Three people were inside but were at the back of the business and were not injured, police said.

The next day, the shooting took place at the Hair World Salon. A witness told investigators that after the shooting, the shooter ran to an old-style red van, jumped in and drove off at full speed, police said in a statement.

“We need to take this person into custody,” Garcia told reporters late Friday afternoon. He said the police department would increase surveillance and patrols in areas that could be targeted, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Covid fueled anti-Asian racism. Now older Asian Americans are being attacked.

Hate crimes against Asian Americans have been on the rise in the United States since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Early last year there was a spate of attacks in northern California, including one in which an 84-year-old Thai man died after being pushed to the ground.

Then a March 2021 shooting at three Atlanta-area spas left eight people dead, including six Asian women — sparking debate over whether the rampage, carried out by a white man, was considered a crime of hate.

The shooter, Robert Aaron Long, 22, was sentenced to life in prison.

Scenes following the shooting at an Atlanta-area spa

Other incidents have hit the headlines this year. In March, a 67-year-old Asian woman in New York was punched in the head and face more than 125 times, stomped on and spat at in what authorities called a “brutal” hate crime. Surveillance video showed that a man, identified by authorities as Tammel Esco, punched the woman from behind, knocked her down, then continued beating her until she was writhing on the ground.

Attacks on Asian Americans during the pandemic renew criticism that the United States is underestimating hate crimes

Following the Dallas Police Chief’s announcement that the Koreatown living room shooting may be a hate crime, Mayor Eric Johnson (D) called the possibility “chilling and deeply disturbing.”

“I want our city’s Asian American community – which has dealt appallingly with increasing vitriol in recent years – to know that the City of Dallas and the people of Dallas stand with them,” the mayor said in a statement.

John Jun, one of the founding members of the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Korean American Coalition, told The Associated Press that he had hoped the living room shooting was an isolated incident, but now he is increasingly more worried.

“It looks like they are targeting Asian Americans for sure and most likely Korean American businesses in the region,” he said.

Jun, who is also a city council member for the Dallas suburb of Coppell, told the AP that Koreatown, where the salon is located, was once heavily industrial but was transformed in the 1980s and is now home to many stores. , restaurants, markets. , medical offices and salons. He said people there are “obviously shaken and on edge right now”.

Dallas police have asked residents to be on the lookout and help them identify possible suspects.

In recent years, wick locs have exploded in popularity and are quickly becoming a trend. One of the most common misconceptions about locs is that they’re all the same, but that’s far from true.

Not all locks are the same. Their sizes, methods and lengths differentiate one type of loc from the other.

Wick locs are quite common, and chances are you’ve seen one without realizing it. They are basically very thick dreadlocks who are famous for standing tall while still small. The style has become very popular among celebrities and common people. But how and where did these unique locks come from?

Origin Locs Wicks

Although there is no way to know the exact origin of this hairstyle, it is widely believed that highlights became very popular first in South Florida.

However, it didn’t really catch national attention until celebrities started sporting the style. Kodak Black is a prime example.

It gets its name from the wick of a candle as it stands upright rather than falling. But the locks end up hanging down once they grow out. Highlight dreads are among the thickest dreads. They are so thick that some have between 4 and 10 strands on their heads.

How to Grow Locs Wicks

The first question most people ask is, “How long should my hair be locs?”

To start your wick loss journey, your hair should be about 5 inches long. Strands should be thick, so it takes a lot of hair to stand a few inches higher than your scalp after forming a strand.

Starting with enough hair also improves the growing process and makes the trip less expensive. It also means you get lock-in locks right off the bat. You wouldn’t have to wait weeks or months to see your locs in full glory.

Unfortunately, some cannot stand the process of crocheting long locks of hair. It can take hours to form and maintain locks.

Methods of Making Wicks Locs

The crochet wick combination method

The crochet wick combination method is the most popular way to create a loc wick. This process requires you to combine the locs with a crochet needle. By using this method, you get your locks instantly rather than waiting for them to grow out over time.

Start by sectioning your loose locks and hair, placing rubber bands only at the root of each section.

Start shaping your locks using a single, double, or triple crochet needle to create the internal structure of your lock, which will eventually determine its outer shape.

While holding your locks in your hands, start crocheting. Start near the root of the locs and pull the hook tool in and out of the section.

Repeat this process until the loc begins to have a rounded shape. If done correctly, the hair should begin to clump and tangle into a cylindrical shape. Gradually pull the section of hair up to form a full section.

Crochet wick extensions

If you want long locks right now and your hair is too short, you should consider using wick extensions. They can be used to start your highlighting journey, or they can be added to lengthen your highlights.

For this method, it is best to consult a specialist to have your wicks installed.

The free form method

For the freeform method, you start with freeform locks and comb out the locks over time. This means that you allow your hair to grow and lock freely without any particular styling. Just wash, oil and let grow.

When you notice your hair roots merging in one place, part them according to the thickness and number of strands you want to have.

This method lets you choose to separate the locs as they grow, giving you more control over the style and thickness of your locks. However, it is important to note that freeform locks will not look as cylindrical as crochet locks.

The rubber band method

The rubber band method is a great way to start highlights on loose hair. All you have to do is bundle your loose hair into large sections and put rubber bands along the length of each section.

Leave the rubber bands for 3-4 weeks the first time. After this period, remove the rubber bands and check if your hair starts to fall out.

If it’s not locked yet, put the rubber bands back in place and wait another 3-4 weeks. Repeat this process until your hair falls out. Once your hair is curled, you no longer need rubber bands.

Locs Bit Care Tips

  • Try to maintain a consistent size for your locs. This makes them more uniform.
  • Wash and care for your locks regularly. Use a clarifying shampoo to wash once or twice a month, depending on how quickly they get dirty.
  • After washing your locks, pat them dry with a microfiber towel, then air-dry or blow-dry them until your hair is completely dry to prevent mold and mildew from forming.
  • Oil and moisturize your scalp frequently.
  • Remember to cover your hair at night with a silk or satin bonnet or scarf.
  • Use rose water and light oil on your locks to keep them hydrated
  • It is possible to tighten the locks using the elastic or hook method.

While wicking style locs seem to have originated in Florida, it’s a style that has spread across the world. If you love wick locs and want to grow one, we hope you go!

Max Borenstein is living a dream. the Godzilla vs. Kong screenwriter grew up in Los Angeles, watching the Showtime Lakers and cheering Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; decades later, he is the co-creator and showrunner of HBO Buying Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. But nothing can prepare you for facing criticism from your idols.

Based on a sportswriter Jeff Pearlmanthe book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the Los Angeles Lakers dynasty of the 1980s, the hit drama — which has already been greenlit for season two — is also a major flop, at least according to many who have chronicled. Abdul-Jabbar wrote a scathing essaywhile the lawyers of Jerry West, Hall of Famer and former Lakers coach and general manager, has demanded a retraction, apology and damages for the actor’s alleged “false and defamatory portrayal” of West Jason Clarke, as an “uncontrollable, intoxicated rage addict”.

In a recent statement, HBO came to the defense of Borenstein and company:winning time is not a documentary and was not presented as such. However, the series and its portrayals are based on extensive factual research and reliable supply, and HBO steadfastly supports our talented creators and actors who have brought a dramatization of this epic chapter in basketball history to the screen.

winning time concluded its first season with Sunday’s “Promised Land,” in which the Magic-led Lakers ended their own first season with an NBA championship. To talk about the finale, detractors and the future, we went one-on-one with Borenstein.

Vanity Lounge: When I do these season postmortems with showrunners, it’s often, “Oh, man, how did you come to this shocking conclusion?” But, here, any die-hard NBA fan or any human with Google knew the Lakers won the 1980 title. So how did you make sure it wasn’t disappointing?

Max Borenstein: It’s twofold: it’s making sure it’s not disappointing, and it’s making sure it’s not disappointing, because that’s just the beginning of the story. I think people know the outline of this story from the 30,000 foot perspective, but that’s the same way you know the outline of an adaptation of a great novel or Shakespeare. Just because you know what doesn’t mean you understand how or why. And it actually frees us up so that we can still have surprises for the audience, because there’s a lot of things that people don’t know, like about the Jack McKinneys of the world that have been forgotten.

People tell most sports stories specifically because they have an ending. The model is, you win, you lose. In our case, we are doing something different. We’re telling an epic that’s in the world of sports, but in many ways it’s really about what happens next. Right from the start, you meet characters who are entering a second act in their lives, or who are hoping that they will find a second act in their lives. Jerry West, pat riley– these were guys who won, then the end of the sport came and they looked into the abyss wondering, “Now what? So hopefully we can dramatize the episode in a way that surprises and engages, while delving into those core questions where you realize that winning itself is complicated and nuanced.

I’m interested in your pacing both this season and the show. What was it like planning for the first year, knowing you have over 10 years worth of content to work on what probably won’t be more than 10 seasons of a show?

I don’t know if we’ll have 10 seasons, but I know how many seasons it would take to get it right. Precisely because people can go to the Wikipedia page and find out “what happened”, there’s no point in making a show that just recreates those events and throws in a few jokes and takes you through the decade in a few years. By definition, if you’re spending your real estate moving through time that quickly, you can’t get deeper into the characters or the experience, and those were the things that were the most exciting and interesting to me. It became clear early on that the interesting version of this story needed to be slowed down – and there’s still a lot going on this season. Each episode is full of incidents, murders and pregnancies! [Laughs.] While nostalgia is a lovely aspect of making a show about a time period that people remember, if that’s all you have, then you’ve got a pretty shallow pool. It’s a great American epic that deserves a romantic approach.

A response to the declining value of wool https://hairextensionsclip.org.uk/a-response-to-the-declining-value-of-wool/ Sat, 07 May 2022 01:51:07 +0000 https://hairextensionsclip.org.uk/a-response-to-the-declining-value-of-wool/ An exciting project is underway at Wairere Rams as the team develops a new breed of woolless sheep. An exciting project is underway at Wairere Rams as the team develops a new breed of woolless sheep.

Business manager Simon Buckley said the farm still believes in wool.

However, its value had declined for many years, costing today’s farmers more time and money to produce than it was worth.

“If you go back to the late 1980s, wool was probably up to 50 to 60 percent or more of a sheep farmer’s income,” Buckley said.

“Most sheep farmers today would say it costs more to produce than what we get for it.”

Looking to the future, the Wairere team began working on a solution to the industry’s problem: furry sheep.

“There was no good alternative,” Buckley said.

“The only alternatives were a change in land use or raising more cattle, and that’s why our sheep numbers went down.

“About 4,000 sheep every day for 35 years have disappeared from New Zealand.”

Buckley said that if sheep numbers continue to drop, there won’t be any left in 35 to 40 years.

“New Zealand sheep farmers still believe in wool, the belief that it is a valuable commodity and that the value will recover in real terms. People have been hoping for this for a long time and it hasn’t happened. not produced.

He said competitive prices for synthetics have contributed to the decline in the value of wool.

Despite an “oversupply and under-demand” for wool, farmers still had to shear their sheep, which meant they were still produced and risked “going to waste”.

“Farmers are increasingly disappointed with the net benefits of wool. Costs keep rising and revenues keep falling.

“One of our goals is to provide what people will need in the future.”

Buckley said the Wairere company had a farm in the UK that provided the genetics to produce furry sheep and decided to bring the breed to New Zealand.

He said the company aims to provide wool-free sheep to avoid shearing and maintenance costs, but sheep that shed naturally or don’t shed at all are nothing new.

“It was the intervention of people that developed the sheep as they are,” he said.

“They grow wool everywhere, and you have to remove it mechanically. Going back in history, sheep lose their wool because it becomes a risk for them if they continue to grow.

He said artificial insemination of sheep and transfer of transplanted embryos was unnatural, but was a way for Wairere Rams to speed up the process.

After identifying the genetics that would do well in New Zealand, the transfer from the UK began in September 2021.

Over 1000 sheep have been inseminated and their lambs are expected to arrive in the spring.

Meanwhile, Wairere’s team are “eagerly waiting”, hoping to offer Kiwi farmers ram pigs for mating in a year’s time.

“People come to our door because they trust us. We want to be able to provide whatever they want.

“We believe that with the importation of furry sheep and the development of sheep that do not produce wool and are well adapted to New Zealand farming conditions and systems, we can provide a logical alternative.

“This might be the best thing that ever happened to wool.”

After several years of research, genetics deemed suitable for local conditions were transported to New Zealand and the process of artificial insemination began on site at Wairere.

Until the sheep bred, the results were yet to be seen and the team was eager to see the success of their work.

Along with the new breed, Wairere Rams would continue to produce wool sheep.

“We’ll produce a lot of sheep with a lot of wool, but as a supplier of sheep genetics, if we don’t supply those sheep that we think people will want, they’ll go somewhere else,” Buckley said.

“It is only a small part of our total genetic offering, but it will provide an alternative for those wishing to move away from wool and the costs associated with growing it.”

Buckley said pursuing the new breed comes with challenges — which they may not have thought of yet — but they will overcome them and tackle them as best they can.

“If you do the same thing over and over again, you’re going to go bankrupt. Having the ability to innovate and change what you do is essential for any business.

Don’t you just love it when two celebrities unwittingly (or even intentionally, see: Paris Hilton and her dog at Coachella) get along. Whether it’s through fashion, hair, or even makeup choices, when two big stars sport the same look, it often means that style is trending. Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski proved that to be true in late March.

Of course, unlike Emily and Hailey, in this case of pairing, the two are sisters. And those sisters are Dua and Rina Lipa. Less than 24 hours ago, Dua, the eldest of the two, shared a series of Instagram posts with friends enjoying “Colin the Caterpillar and the Caviar.” Standard Wednesday night, right?

But the only photo that stood out to us was the eighth snap alongside her younger sister, Rina. The two are rocking this summer’s biggest hair trend: baby braids and loose waves. And from a quick scroll down of the singer’s IG feed, we can actually see that she’s been wearing her hair like this a lot lately. So I guess it’s safe to say the trend is well underway, even before the sun in England. Let’s hope he will accompany us to the szn festival!

Dua Lipa @dualipainstagram

Although there might be a six-year age gap between the two, you have to admit that they look a lot alike. I wouldn’t be surprised if you told me that it was actually Rina on stage at the O2 singing “One Kiss” on Monday night.

I can’t lie either. If I’m going to preach our Cosmo transparency policy (no really, we like to keep it real), these two even inspired my baby braids hairstyle this morning. I guess you could just call me Lia Lipa. Or even Dua Lia. I just pray that they both take me as their third sister…

Dove Cameron’s hairstyle at the 2022 Met Gala gave the evening’s “Gilded Glamour” theme a futuristic twist. The actor arrived at the fundraising event wearing bold eye makeup that featured a dramatic reverse cat eye and transparent, beaded gemstones, which added a fun droplet texture to his eyes. Her hairstyle, however, brought her entire look together.

“When I first saw Dove’s dress, I thought of a futuristic woman and wanted to reflect the details of the dress in the hair,” Cameron’s hairstylist said. Jacob Rozenberg says POPSUGAR. “I also wanted to lean into the romantic side of the dress, which reminded me of ‘Romeo and Juliet’.”

Once he landed on the final look (and after three previous iterations), it took Rozenberg an hour and a half to create. “Before the Met Gala, I sandwiched the recording Great Lengths Hair Extensions together they razor cut them and used a Harry Josh Pro Tools Pro Dryer 2000 ($250) and Harry Josh Pro Tools Magnesium Heat Brush ($55) to blow them out before sculpting them onto a polystyrene head before let it dry overnight,” he says “Then I blew out the roots of the Dove hair, again using the Pro Dryer and the Magnesium Thermal Brush, but left the ends their natural texture before I shaped the hair without styling it overtly using the Harry Josh Pro Tools 3-in-1 Ceramic Curling Iron ($185), then pinned the Long lengths Pieces of hair in her bun.”

Take a closer look at Cameron’s hair below.

The beautiful and talented Keerthy Suresh is one of the best known actresses in South Indian cinema. For his role in the national award-winning film Mahanati, Keerthy Suresh received praise and fans around the world. The actress is stunning in everything she does, whether it’s at airports or advertising her movies. Keerthy nails it like no one else, especially wearing the six years of grace. Her wavy curls are the most attractive feature of her appearance. Curls are difficult to style and manage, but Keerhty Suresh knows how to make them appear flawless in these hairstyles.

At a reception, the actress wore a sari in a traditional ethnic style. Keerthy was pictured posing and smiling brightly. The Mahanati actress had her hair half up and kept her basic makeup with kohl eyes and red lipstick. This hairstyle is great for showcasing your jewelry while structuring your face. The loose strands of hair on her face were just perfect for this look.

In a beautiful Sabyasachi saree, Keerthy attended an award ceremony. In this saree and Sabyasachi jewelry for the 66th National Awards, the beauty appeared as exquisite and ravishing as ever. Dark eyeshadow, deep lips and shoulder-length hair in a knot with gajra completed her outfit. Adding gajra to the bun enhances the overall aesthetic. Keerthy looked stunning with this hairstyle, and we loved how she handled it with grace and elegance.

Keerthy shared some photos from a Diwali celebration. The actress appeared to wear her hair in a simple braid. But if you look closely, the hair was parted down the middle with intricate braid work on each side. And of course, we can’t forget the gajra that just completed the whole look.

Keerthy was a special guest at a reception and wore a mustard yellow velvet outfit. While the makeup on her face was enough for her, Keerthy’s hairstyle in a messy, tied up fold stole the show. Her hairstyle was well styled and lifted her ensemble to a new level.

Looking to celebrities’ social media accounts for beauty advice isn’t always exciting, but it’s often worth it, especially when models share their stories of how they deal with hair loss. Model Caroline Murphy took to Instagram recently to reveal that – like Alyssa Milano and many others – she is losing her hair after having COVID-19[feminine]. His solution? A “triple threat treatment” which consists of supplements and a serum.

“Post-COVID hair loss is real,” Murphy told his 517,000 Instagram followers last week, alongside a photo of the Agent Nateur’s Holi(locks) Hair Fortifying Serumthe Supplement for hair, skin and nails Holi (mane)and the Food supplement Moon Juice SuperHair. It’s an expensive regimen: Agent Nateur hair serum is $88, Holi (mane) supplements for $98, and Moon Juice supplements for $60. But given Murphy’s profession, we can’t blame him for investing – especially with the rave reviews of the latter in Nordstrom.

“After three months of continuous use, my hair has stopped falling out and there is a lot of new growth”, wrote a Nordstrom reviewer coping with pandemic-induced stress and anxiety. After four months of use, another customer nicknamed the vitamins are “life-changing” because they saw less hair loss in the shower and on their comb. And by a third person with baldness near the hairline, “religiously” sticking to the pills for two months gave them the regrowth they were hoping for.

With the addition of the Agent Nateur supplement, it looks like Murphy has all his bases covered. Powder targeting hair, skin and nails contains marine collagen and pearl powder; according to the brand, pearl powder is “the richest source of calcium on the planet”, and its high magnesium content could promote less oxidative stress (which leads to premature aging).

A 2021 review of pearl powder in the peer-reviewed journal Materials agree: the ingredient is used in traditional Chinese medicine as antioxidantand his stimulation of fibroblasts increased collagen production in laboratory studies. But, there are not many user reviews for the Agent Nateur hair serum or supplement, which uses green tea, horsetail, peptides and clover flower to inhibit the DHT hormone which can contribute to excretion.
